Last Chance Ranch

Last Chance Ranch Last Chance Ranch offers the once in a life time opportunity to satisfy that need for solitude, simplicity, and the sense of ease in nature by being surrounded on three sides by the U.S. Forest Service and adjacent to the Flattops. In 1919 Alan Carhart embraced the Flattops area and was the first US Forest Service official to initiate a plea for Wilderness Preservation. He found looming majestic volcanic flat-topped cliffs with vast subalpine terrain yielding to alpine tundra hosting approximately 110 lakes and ponds and roughly 100 miles of fishable streams. In 1975 the United States Congress designated the Flat Tops Wilderness, which consists of a total of 235,214 acres and is Colorado’s second largest Wilderness, which is complimented by over 800,000 acres of United States Forest Service adjacent to Last Chance Ranch….a precious expanse of breathtakingly beautiful land.

This area is rich with recreational opportunities, including exceptional fishing, big game hunting, cross country skiing, snowmobiling, ideal country for horses and hiking. The Steamboat Ski area is only 45 minutes from the ranch, or you can go to the Vail Valley in 1 hour and 30 minutes. Cattle and horse ranches dominate the landscape in the area adding to the beauty and serenity of this ranch.

The 385+/- acres of Last Chance Ranch encompasses all that is great about the Steamboat Springs and South Routt County area: the scenery, the rustic ranch buildings, the unspoiled beauty, spectacular recreation, productive ranching, and the easy access commercial airports in Hayden or Eagle, Colorado. Very few ranches exist that provide the combination of private world class recreation with the proximity of a ski resort that has the stature and reputation of Steamboat Springs.
